At BASIS Prague, instruction takes place in English, but our goal is for students to develop Czech language skills at the same level as their peers in Czech schools. Students naturally learn to function in two languages and to see both Czech and English as a seamless part of everyday life.
We also recognize that children come to BASIS Prague with different levels of language proficiency — from native Czech speakers to students for whom Czech is a second language. That is why our program is designed to help every child develop their language potential at their own pace while meeting all academic expectations.

Primary School (Levels 1–4): Czech as Part of Everyday Learning
In the elementary school (Levels 1–4), Czech language instruction is taught through an integrated approach that combines grammar with literature and history in a subject called Czech Humanities. This allows students to naturally develop language skills while learning to think critically and make meaningful connections across topics.
In addition to the Lead Teacher, Czech lessons are always supported by two Czech language specialists working together in the classroom. This team-teaching model allows students to work in smaller groups and receive more individualized support.
A strong emphasis is also placed on using Czech beyond traditional language lessons. Through a subject called Czech Connections, students explore themes across multiple disciplines while developing communication skills and vocabulary. One lesson each week is taught in English, while the second takes place in Czech.
For younger students, BASIS Prague also offers a Czech Club, where children can continue using Czech naturally outside the classroom and build a positive relationship with the language.

Middle School (Levels 5–9): Instruction Based on Student Needs
Beginning in Level 5, students are grouped according to their Czech language proficiency and academic needs.
Students following the Czech national curriculum receive Czech instruction with the same time allocation as students in Czech public schools. At the same time, the school also offers Czech as a Second Language for students who are non-native speakers or who require additional language support.
This flexible approach allows every student to continue developing their language skills in a way that matches both their level and their long-term academic goals.

A Czech and International Pathway
In high school, Czech is no longer a compulsory subject. However, students may choose to continue studying it at a level that fully prepares them for the Czech Maturita examination. Instruction focuses not only on communication, but also on text analysis, academic writing, and grammatical accuracy.
At BASIS Prague, students are prepared for future studies anywhere in the world. Whether they choose to continue to universities abroad or pursue higher education in the Czech Republic, they graduate with the language skills and academic foundation to succeed in both international and Czech environments.
